I have watched the film! Which is terrific, by the way. Vic is predictably relaxed and articulate and engaging, and she's wonderfully illuminating about her process. You've put it together really well, and your use of the witnesses is judicious and entertaining. Mick looks and sounds properly professorial, and fulfils completely my characterisation of him as the ultimate theoretician of the art of editing, Rufus is generous and revealing about a first-time director's reliance on a confident, reassuring and inspired editorial presence, and a slightly deranged looking yours truly doesn't let the side down too badly, I don't think. You've assembled a very useful tool for prospective editors, and a very good film besides.
John Madden: Director - Shakespeare in Love, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Operation Mincemeat
That's gorgeous! Love a deep dive into editing!
Emma Hickox: Editor - Becoming Jane, The Boat That Rocked, Bad Moms
Wow. I watched the film last night with my mother. I really enjoyed it. You've done a great job so well done. Bravo.
Victoria Boydell: editor - Luther, Broken, Great Expectations, Goodbye Christopher Robin, Operation Mincemeat, Rye Lane, Saltburn
Ahh guys, that’s really lovely. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Can’t wait to see it out there so it can find an audience.
Tom Fleischman on his mum Dede Allen: Sound Mixer - Hugo, The Irishman, Wolf of Wall Street, BlacKkKlansman
What a treat it was to experience a portrait of someone who meant so much to me, and to relive how much Dede influenced my entire life . I was enchanted once again by someone whose generosity words cannot describe . To view Dede in the context of your film reminded me of all the wonderful times we shared . Working for her was the most amazing treat and without Dede, I probably would have been denied the life that she gave me . So thank you so very much for bringing her back to life. For me it was a fabulous journey.
Steve Rotter: Editor - The Right Stuff, The World According to Garp, What Women Want
It looks great. Verna deserves all that attention. She was wonderful to work with - a real joy and easy. Good luck with your documentary.
Peter Bogdanovich: Director - The Last Picture Show, Paper Moon, Mask, She's Funny That Way
Brill....it's great. A hugely important document to raise an awareness of a cinema legend and perhaps as important ..that the film imparts a real understanding of precisely why she is so revered so widely inside (and I imagine outside) the world of film editing. Congrats! I am super proud to be a part of it.
Mick Audsley: Editor - 12 Monkeys, Dangerous Liaisons, Murder on the Orient Express
I absolutely was fascinated by our working similarities and her excitement and joy that she expresses about her various projects. Vic’s attitude about the fear apprehension one feels before a first cut screening is so very familiar. Your commentary is unobtrusive and shows a complete understanding of the editorial process. Of course the director’s commentaries are exactly what an editor hopes for and shows the team work that makes editing so rewarding. At the end of your various projects I would love to see a compilation of all the editors you will be involved with . My congrats on a delightful way to tell the story of someone who is so familiar without actually knowing them .
Steve Rotter: Editor - The Right Stuff, The World According to Garp, What Women Want - Copy

Paul Rogers: Editor - Everything Everywhere All At Once
It’s wonderful. Well done! Golly! So much amazing work! From her AND you guys!!
Emma on her mum Anne Coates
My God, we should be on our knees in gratitude to you, making it so lucid and so riveting - I was watching it like I was an outsider, with all these people I know! Congratulations for your endurance, tenacity, skill. I don't know how you've done it but I'm on my knees with respect and gratitude. I cannot put into words the magnitude of this document.
Mick Audsley: Editor - Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Wow, I never realized what a massive undertaking this is, congratulations on a wonderful accomplishment. I don’t think you need your text apology at the beginning of the film, since no one will be aware of any short comings. I of course am most appreciative of your portrait of Dede which is both respectful and loving. It brought back fond memories and many experiences. Thanks so much ,
Steve Rotter on Invisible Women
I’ve had both the pleasure of watching this hugely enjoyable documentary on the artistry of film editing and the lives of the incredible “Invisible Women”, integral to the success of some the most important films ever made, and knowing the filmmakers behind its creation. I unreservedly recommend all film fans watch it!
Derek Masterson: Award-winning playwright and screenwriter
Just brilliant!
Alan Miller: Filmmaker, writer, director and editor
I am Arthur Penn's biographer and have, I believe, Dede's last interview. I am so pleased to see this loving documentary and am impressed at the detail of her craft that you are able to articulate. Arthur loved her.
